Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days Volume 1

Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days is a spin-off manga by Fumino Hayashi that was published from 2003-2005 and featured 6 volumes. Unlike the anime series or the manga by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Angelic Days is entirely hypothetical as it is set in an alternate reality shown in the last episode of the anime series. The characters battle the Angels; however, the manga's focus is on intimacy and relationships between the characters. Also, unlike the original series, Angelic Days takes a light-hearted approach to the series, free from the complex emotional baggage of the characters and their pasts.

In this setting Shinji Ikari lives with his father, Gendo Ikari, and his mother, Yui Ikari, who is still alive in this alternate reality. Shinji and Asuka Langley Soryu are childhood friends and Rei Ayanami is a new girl at their school. Misato Katsuragi is their homeroom teacher and an employee at NERV. Their class contains characters, such as Kensuke Aida, Toji Suzuhara, and Hikari Horaki, who largely retain their personalities from the original series. Ritsuko Akagi is the school nurse and works at NERV as well.
